Põhjala Brewing, Estonia

Põhjala Brewery, founded in 2011 in Tallinn, has grown into one of the most distinctive names on the Baltic craft beer scene. It began as a gypsy brewery, creating its first beers in other brewhouses based on its own recipes. Since 2014 it has operated its own brewery, and since 2018 it has been based in a modern facility in the historic Noblessner harbor area, featuring a brewery, tap room, lab, shop, and even a sauna. Põhjala is known for its love of dark porters, barrel-aged beers, and creations inspired by Estonian nature – forests, bogs, and northern traditions.

Their production focuses on the balance between deep, robust flavor and a sensitive approach to ingredients. Signature porters like Öö and Must Kuld take center stage, while the brewery also produces a wide range of specials – from seasonal NEIPA and Cold IPA to fruity sours and historic beer styles. Collaborations with other craft breweries bring fresh ideas and new taste experiences to their lineup.

The Põhjala Tap Room offers 24 taps, a unique setting with Texas-style BBQ, and the authentic atmosphere of the Noblessner district. Both locals and visitors appreciate the attention to detail, high-quality ingredients, and unconventional flavors. The brewery also hosts the Tallinn Craft Beer Weekend – a festival that brings hundreds of craft beers from across the Nordics and beyond.

In Slovakia, Põhjala is gaining fans among lovers of dark porters and barrel-aged exclusives, as well as among those who prefer fresh, hop-forward styles like NEIPA and Cold IPA. For anyone seeking bold, northern-inspired beer experiences with a modern craft twist, Põhjala is an excellent choice.
