Žufánek Mead Base is a one-of-a-kind absinthe built on a base of mead spirit — not the typical grain alcohol or grape spirit. Aromatic herbs such as wormwood, anise, fennel, hyssop and Roman wormwood are macerated in this honey-derived distillate, which is then re-distilled to create a smooth, herbaceous spirit with a distinct honey character. The sweetness of honey merges beautifully with the bitterness of wormwood, delivering a complex and mysterious profile.

In terms of clarity, Mead Base louches more gently than classic absinthes — a result of a slightly lower proportion of anise and fennel in the recipe. This makes it particularly suitable for those who enjoy absinthe but prefer less dominant anise notes. Crafting just one litre of 55% mead spirit requires around 1.4 kg of honey, making this absinthe both rare and deeply rooted in craftsmanship.
