Destilerías Unidas, S.A. (DUSA) is a Venezuelan distillery located in La Miel, in the state of Lara, at the foothills of the Andes. Its origins date back to 1959, when the original company Licorerías Unidas was established in collaboration with Seagram’s International, bringing together the production of vodka, gin, rum, and other spirits. In 2002, four Venezuelan families took over the facility, renamed it Destilerías Unidas, and maintained its independent identity while modernizing its operations.

DUSA stands out for its diverse production methods, using a combination of pot stills, batch kettles, and column stills. This allows the distillery to craft a wide range of spirits, though it is best known for its exceptional rum. The production relies on traditional raw materials such as molasses and sugarcane honey, which contribute to the depth and richness of the final distillate.

Maturation takes place in oak barrels, typically ex-bourbon, with heavier and older rums stored in cooler sections of the warehouse, while lighter expressions age in warmer, higher locations. The tropical climate of Venezuela plays a significant role in the aging process, intensifying flavor development and adding complexity.

The blending and final selection are overseen by master blender Tito Cordero, who has been part of the distillery since the 1980s. Under his guidance, DUSA creates spirits known for their finesse, aromatic depth, and consistent quality, including premium and limited-edition releases.

Destilerías Unidas is internationally recognized as the producer of the Diplomático brand. At the same time, the distillery places strong emphasis on sustainability, local sourcing, and long-term maturation, resulting in spirits with a distinct and refined character.
