Five Movie and Literature Titles Inspired by Wine

Wine have been an inspiration for books or movies ever since we remember. Let’s revive some of these older and even recent, popular works with glass of good wine in your hands.

1. Búrlivé – Zralé – Mladé víno

Eng.: Thunderous – Matured – Young Wine (movie trilogy)

Maybe the first what comes to your mind is the famous series from „Markiza“ television but that is not what we meant here. This movie was created back in the socialism era. This movie describes desire for freedom and change of a regime. The main character is unshakable communist, the head of „JRD“ (united farmer’s cooperation – responsible for most of the agriculture production in Czechoslovakia) in Pálavice, Michal Janák. Counterparty are wine entrepreneurs who desire to earn living from their own businesses. Even though the movie reflects dark times of communist era, the humor is gently incorporated into the entire film.

The second movie from this trilogy is „Matured Wiine“, which was shot 5 years later. The interesting fact is that in this particular movie, 62 actors poped up during the movie shooting. The last piece of this trilogy is „Young Wine“. The whole trilogy took place in South Morava, where as we all know, grapes are doing really well.

2. Červené víno, eng.: Red Wine (book and movie)

Modern post-war prose and work of František Hečko. The plot, as usual – love, for which Kristína has fallen. Instead of rich reeve she choses young poor lad. If you would like to remind yourself the everyday worries of the common people from this era, you should read this book or have a look on TV adaptation. The source of inspiration for Hečko was his own experience, as one of the characters is himself and it continues with the family of Habdžova which reflects his own one. The author wanted to point a light on struggles which winegrowers face everyday.

3. Víno vínovaté, eng.: Silly Wine (movie)

With natural humor of the actors from „Radošinské naivné divadlo“ theatre, this movie reflects a secret mission to transport wine to the royal court and behind all of this is „Silly Wine“. You will make a mistake if you miss this masterpiece!

4. Podfuk jako víno eng.: A Good Year (book)

If you fancy dramatic plot-twists, you will surely enjoy this detective story from british author Peter Mayle, who is well known for his very own, amusing way of storytelling style.

5. Vinaři, eng.: Winegrovers (series)

The last piece on our list the famous series Winegrovers, which was released only recently in 2014. Once again we find ourselves in South Morava which is the destination for young manager Katarína with her two kids. Holidays quickly become second home, where they shall experience a lot of funny moments.
