In 1916, when the New Zealand wine industry was still in its infancy, Josip Babich produced the first bottle of wine. Today, Babich Winery is one of New Zealand’s most prominent family-owned wineries, producing 13 different types of wine. Babich is a key player in the New Zealand wine industry, with a reputation for producing world-class wines exported to over 35 countries worldwide. Joe Babich, known as one of New Zealand’s most talented and respected winemakers and wine experts, joined his father and brother Peter in the family business in 1958 as head of production. Today, 70-year-old Joe is the managing director of Babich Winery and is still actively involved in winemaking. His brother Peter is the company’s president and Peter’s son David is the managing director. The third generation of Babichs will soon join the family business.

Although Babich's headquarters and hi-tech winery are located in the east of Auckland, Babich also has a 50% stake in Marlborough Winery and owns 7 vineyards strategically located across the country to grow the best varieties. The Babich name has far exceeded the original dreams of the winery's founder Josip Babich when he first planted vineyards at the beginning of the last century and as the winery has continued to flourish under the leadership of Babich's descendants.
