Degrees plato vs. alcohol content

If you happened to be an ale drinker, you should know by now that if you drink one pint of lager marked as 12°, taste is more rich in comparison with 10° pint. If you thought 12°, 10° stand for alcohol content in beer you were wrong! Even though beer degrees plato
does have something to do with alcohol content, you should look elsewhere.

The density of beer depends on the amount of malt dry mass added to boiling process. There is a certain ratio between the amount of water and kilograms of malt. This ratio is expressed in degrees and you can find beers with 12° or even 23°. More degrees’ beer has, stronger it will be. An alcohol content in beer is created while fermentation process is taking place and it is expressed in percentage.

Belgian trappist beers are unique

So whereas France is well known for its endless, sunshine vineyards, Belgium is “cradle of quality beers”. The states of Benelux are known for their beers with higher percentage of alcohol and rich taste.

Trappist beers first appeared in 17th century in the Monastery La Trappe, as the way for monks to earn enough money to keep monastery running. The term “Trappist beer” can only be labelled on those beers, which come from one of ten monastery breweries located in Belgium, Holland, Austria and USA.
