Whenever someone mentions wine, the first thing that comes to everyone’s mind is grape. In theory, wine can be made from all kinds of fruits and the most common fruit is clearly grape but right behind is black currant. The wines from this tasty berry are very popular. One of its producers is the Pereg winery, which wins competitions on every corner. What is the secret then?

 

About the Brand

The Pereg winery was founded in 1991 and rapidly develops ever since. What makes this wine so special is the special variety of berries they use. It is called the Black Chokeberry. This plant with red flowers and dark-purple fruits is well known for its healing capabilities.
Apart from wine it is commonly added to brandy, syrups, jams, compotes or cold pressed fruit juices. You can easily drink it on daily basis, as it is a great source of antioxidants which can keep potential diseases under control. 

The Pereg throughout the years developed into a strong brand with many successes in different competitions, so let’s have a look on some of the “best out of best” bottles.

• The Black Chokeberry Wine 

This wine contains 100% fermented juice from Black Chokeberry. Who would have thought that wine embodies not just a pleasure for our senses but for our body too? After all, the Chokeberry wine is the best proof. This berry is grown without chemical additives, as it is very durable and can deal with pests on its own. It contains flavonoids, mineral substances, a lot of iron and iodine which helps with thyroid problems. The vitamin known as Rutin, is crucial in fight for healthy veins. It is recommended by experts suggest to degust the wine as a very last one, due to its strong and sweet taste.

• The Black Currant Wine

Semi-sweet black-currant wine won the hearts of wine experts during the “Devínsky strapec” competition which took place in 2011. Its full-body taste of black currant is unique for the whole wine market. It contains vitamins and antioxidants and its processed by modern fermentation technology using rotofermenters.

• Pereg Black Cuvée

It is a blend of two previously mentioned wines, more precisely The Black Chokeberry Wine and The Black Currant Wine. This wine was awarded in 2008’s as a winner of competition “Devínsky Strapec”. This semi-sweet wine pairs well with venison, beef, duck or goose. 

• Rubinus

The plantations from which Pereg varieties come from are located in “Malokarpatská oblast” in Western Slovakia. The Rubinus is grown in a place that is marked with a BIO certificate of cultivation. It guarantees the finest quality for reasonable price. We could describe this wine as semi-dry with fine taste. We highly recommend to try this masterpiece.
