The tradition started to write its own history on 17th October in 1810, in honor of the wedding of the Bavarian Prince Ludwig I to Princess Teresa of Saxon-Hildburghausen. They organized horse races on Tereziánská lúka. Ordinary races gradually became a huge venue with festival, which began to be organized by the city of Munich.

If you wondered why the September festival is called Oktoberfest, then you already know where the name comes from. Later, the annual start of the festival was postponed to the last days of September, because the warm weather in September was able to attract more people.
